M&M’s “Just My Shell” commercial from BBDO New York became the winner of YouTube’s 2012 Ad Blitz. The spot is really worth it.
The spot takes place at the party where M&M’s Lady appears without its casual colorful shell and with a new brown coating instead. Unfortunately some guests think she is naked. As well as the M&M’s Mister who took off his red coating and started dancing after LMFAO’s “I’m sexy and I know it”.
According to Debra Sandler, chief consumer officer of Mars Chocolate North America, they “had a new character added to the mix, which consumers asked us to add. We did a fair amount of teasing leading up to it, to build anticipation. And fundamentally it was a fun ad. The music didn’t hurt, with the LMFAO song. That certainly helped. And I think BBDO just came through with a really entertaining spot. I think it brought a smile to your face, and you really want to share it with someone else.”
